MOVIE NEWS – Willem Dafoe is a truly dedicated actor, and Emma Stone recently revealed a request he made of her. The two actors worked together on two films, and Dafoe asked Stone to slap his face for a scene. His only condition was that she should hit him for real.
Dafoe wanted Emma Stone to slap him at least twenty times, even if it would not be filmed. He asked Stone to do this because he believed it would add authenticity to the scene. Stone discussed the incident in an interview with The New York Times and admitted she was surprised when Dafoe asked her to hit him, but in the end, they both found their way to get into their roles.
Dafoe and Stone worked together on the film “Poor Things,” which is a 19th century Hungarian sci-fi horror movie directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, who had previously worked with Stone on “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” and “The Favourite.”
In the interview, Stone also mentioned that Dafoe often shows up on set even when he’s not part of the scene. For instance, when Stone slaps him, Dafoe insisted on being present to make the scene more authentic. Stone said that Dafoe doesn’t need to be the center of attention because he’s been in the acting industry for a long time, and he values the role and teamwork the most.
Dafoe himself spoke about his approach to acting and how it has evolved over the years. Initially, he was extroverted and wanted to attract attention, but as he aged and deepened his involvement in the industry, he began to see it more as an internal experience. “It became a spiritual thing for me to find points of connection with everything,” said Dafoe.
