Silent Hill 2 Remake Is Nearly Complete!

According to Bloober Team, it’s not up to them when Konami will finally release a modernized, reimagined version of the 2001 game.

2023 looks to be a promising year for the survival horror genre, although only remakes have been attempted (Electronic Arts: Dead Space Remake, Capcom: Resident Evil 4 Remake). Konami is one of them, having partnered with Poland’s Bloober Team (Layers of Fear, Blair Witch, Observer), and we suspected at the time that they were doing something with Silent Hill, which the Japanese publisher later confirmed.

Piotr Babieno, president of Bloober Team, confirmed in a Polish-language interview that “technically,” Silent Hill 2 Remake is already done. It doesn’t mean that the project as a whole is just waiting for Konami’s approval to release it, but the studio is pretty close to the finish line: “Silent Hill 2 is technically ready. It does not mean the game is finished, but we are close. However, the issue of the release schedule lies with our partners; what the promotion will look like and when the title will debut is not directly in our hands,” Babieno said.

So it sounds like they’re in the bug-fixing, polishing phase. But we can’t agree that Babieno can turn Bloober Team into the next Naughty Dog or Ninja Theory, even though they are working on several projects simultaneously. (They’re working on a new IP for Take-Two’s Private Division, but they’re also doing something with Draw Distance, which created Serial Cleaner, and Rogue Games, which made The Last Case of Benedict Fox), and they want to become a transmedia company (i.e., they don’t just want to do games. That’s a bit of a steep goal, too.)

“We want to implement horror-game, horror-film, series, and book projects, but not entirely and directly through us. We want them to be based on cooperation. We are also not afraid of M&A transactions, but we do not intend to take over companies that are simply large or popular. Such an entity must have our DNA and fit into Bloober’s long-term strategy,” Babieno added.

They might be taking too big of a bite…
