MOVIE NEWS – Taron Egerton hints that Kingsman 3 will likely be Eggsy’s last film appearance and wants the character to have a fitting ending.
In an interview with Collider, Taron Egerton hinted that Kingsman 3 will be the last time he appears as Gary “Eggsy” Unwin. The Kingsman series, based on the comics by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, began in 2014 with the highly successful Kingsman: The Secret Service. The series’ director, Mathew Vaughn, continued with the sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle in 2017, followed by the World War I prequel The King’s Man in 2021. The third sequel has been planned since 2019, but due to continuous production delays, the project was postponed several times.
In the interview, Egerton talked about his desire to return to the series that made him famous. He said he has ideas for Kingsman 3 that he wants to pitch to Vaughn, and that he wants the film to be a “worthy ending” for his character. He also added that he would like Colin Firth to return as Eggsy’s mentor, Harry Hart.
Although Kingsman: The Secret Service was not Egerton’s first film role, it was the film that brought him fame. He played the character of Eggsy with impressive charm and sharp wit, which not only laid the foundation for his own career, but also for the success of the spy film series. Eggsy took his place alongside legendary film spies such as James Bond and Jason Bourne.
However, Egerton’s recent statements raise the question of what will happen to the series after his departure. Vaughn has previously expressed his desire to see the Kingsman universe expand beyond the core films and has experimented with prequels. Although The Kingman did not achieve the critical and commercial success of the previous films, it proved that there is still much to explore in the rich universe of the franchise.
The most likely direction after Kingsman 3 is that Vaughn will focus on the planned Statesman spinoff series. The Statesman series is expected to see Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges and Halle Berry return from Kingsman: The Golden Circle and focus on stories set in the United States. This series can also form the basis of further stories. In any case, viewers will be saying a sad goodbye to Egerton after his last appearance as Eggsy in Kingsman 3.
