Does The Project Q's Battery Drain Ridiculously Fast, Too?

Sony seems to have an issue that its products have poor or below-average battery life…

DualSense, the PlayStation 5’s controller, eats through its battery quickly. The DualSense Edge, the more expensive ‘elite’ controller, needs its battery charged even faster. Project Q may follow this funny and sad trend. For those of you who don’t know what it is, here’s a little reminder from Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan: “Project Q is a dedicated device launching later this year that enables you to play any compatible game installed on your PlayStation 5 using Remote Play over Wi-Fi. With a vibrant 8-inch LCD screen of up to 1080p resolution at 60 FPS, the device delivers crisp visuals and smooth gameplay streamed from your PlayStation 5 when you’re away from your TV. All of the buttons and features of the DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, are featured on the device.”

The fact that it’s Remote Play only for the gadget, which will be released towards the end of 2023, raises some questions because Steam Deck is booming. The ASUS ROG Ally is promising (though its performance isn’t all that refined), and you can play games on those devices LOCALLY, not just stream from your console. From this thought, one would be justified in thinking that the handheld will be usable for quite a long time before the battery drains. Tom Henderson on Insider-Gaming (he correctly leaked about the device earlier!) writes that it can be used for just 3-4 hours before it needs to be plugged into a charger. If this information is accurate, then it’s ridiculous, and we have to ask why Sony is skimping on the battery…

Meanwhile, on the ResetEra forum, The Snitch, a reliable leaker, has reported that a yet-to-be-announced AAA PlayStation game is coming to PC in July. Ghost of Tsushima? Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart? Horizon II: Forbidden West? God of War: Ragnarök? Maybe these. We’re doubtful about Gran Turismo 7.
