Superman Doesn’t Exist? The Blue Beetle Trailer Made a Shocking Reference [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – The Blue Beetle trailer that was shown at the DC FanDome event featured an interesting reference to the Superman reboot that is being developed by J.J. Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates. Blue Beetle is one of the most popular superheroes of DC Comics, who uses an alien technology to transform his body and abilities. The movie is directed by Angel Manuel Soto, and stars Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes, the third Blue Beetle.

The trailer did not reveal much about the plot, but it showed some spectacular scenes and humorous dialogues. In one of them, Jaime’s friend, Paco (Jaren Lewison) asks him why he does not use his powers more, and mentions Superman as an example. Jaime’s answer, however, is surprising: “Superman? Who’s that?” Paco is shocked that Jaime does not know the most famous superhero, and remarks that “maybe he doesn’t exist anymore”.

This dialogue raises the question of what kind of world the Blue Beetle movie is set in, and how it fits into the DC cinematic universe. The Superman reboot will be a completely new adaptation of the character, in which a black actor will play the man of steel. The movie has not been officially announced yet, but J.J. Abrams as producer and Ta-Nehisi Coates as writer are already working on it. The reboot will reportedly not be connected to either Zack Snyder’s movies or Henry Cavill’s Superman.

It is possible that the reference heard in the Blue Beetle trailer was just an innocent joke, or maybe a hint that the movie takes place in an alternative timeline, where Superman has not become known or has disappeared. It could also suggest that the DC cinematic universe is turning into a multiverse, in which there are different versions of Superman and other superheroes. This would be consistent with movies like The Flash or Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which will also explore different timelines and worlds.

The Blue Beetle movie does not have a specific release date yet, but it is expected to hit theaters and HBO Max in 2023. The Superman reboot is even further away, as it does not have a director or a star yet. Nevertheless, it is interesting to see how DC tries to renew and expand its cinematic universe.
