The Director and Lead Developer has left the Star Wars: Jedi Survivor Franchise!

Stig Asmussen, director of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, has announced that he is leaving Respawn Entertainment to “pursue other adventures. He has been replaced by “veteran Respawn executives”.

Bloomberg originally reported Asmussen’s departure and later confirmed by EA in an official statement. The statement read: “Stig Asmussen has decided to leave Respawn Entertainment to pursue new adventures. We wish him the best of luck in the future”.

Asmussen joined Respawn in 2014, overseeing the development of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order before taking the helm of the game’s more half-baked sequel. Prior to that, he spent a decade at Sony America, where he helped develop the first three God of War games and served as creative director on God of War 3.

Asmussen’s departure is an interesting turn of events at Respawn. Earlier this year, the director spoke of his desire to expand the Star Wars Jedi series into a trilogy, an idea that was floated even before Jedi: Fallen Order was released in 2019. “We’re already thinking about a second game,” Asmussen said in an interview with IGN. “Honestly, we’re even talking beyond that. When we’re working with Lucasfilm on story development, those conversations are like, ‘Well, where do we go from here with the second game?'”

He added that he “always envisioned this series as a trilogy.”

Respawn continues to have ambitious plans for the Star Wars Jedi series. In July, the company posted several job openings for the development of a new episode in the series, with the goal of “providing players with an immersive Star Wars experience in the form of a fun, third-person action-adventure game. Meanwhile, according to EA’s announcement, “veteran Respawn executives will take the helm and continue development on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
