Resident Evil: Village: Capcom And Apple Set The Port’s Launch Date

While the “apple” port of Resident Evil 4 Remake has no release date, Resident Evil 8’s does.

Capcom has announced that the iPhone and iPad versions of Resident Evil: Village will be released on October 30. The Japanese company asks 4990 yen (~$34) for the base game, while the Winters’ Expansion will cost 2,000 yen (~$13.5). The game’s app will be available for free download from the Apple App Store, as the first portion will be free to play. Note that you’ll need an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad Air, or iPad Pro to play the game (minimum M1 chip required, but Apple mentioned the A17 Pro chip at the time of the announcement).

Resident Evil 4 Remake does not yet have an exact release date: its official release date is still 2023. We also need an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad, or Mac with at least an M1 chip. Pricing is already known, though: they’re asking 7990 yen (~$54) for this, and you’ll have to pay 1000 yen (~$6.75) for the Separate Ways DLC released this week. The solution seen in Resident Evil: Village is used in Leon’s revamped European (Spanish… seeing the Ganados’ use of the language) tour, too: the beginning of the game is free to play, but you’ll have to dig into your pocket for the rest of the content.

It’s a fair way to test how Capcom’s two games run on Apple’s devices and to see how usable it is when you’re not using a controller (as Sony’s DualSense controller was quietly shown during Apple’s Wonderlust coverage!). So there’s no need to waste money if you can’t handle Capcom’s games well.

We’ll be curious to see how Assassin’s Creed: Mirage and Death Stranding Director’s Cut will fare in addition to these, as Apple has announced them in conjunction with Ubisoft and Kojima Productions.
