MOVIE NEWS – Nintendo’s supposed live-action film The Legend of Zelda already has a director, and its partner is none other than Sony Pictures…
After the success of Super Mario Bros. The Movie, it was expected that Nintendo would move quickly and agree to bring other beloved IPs to the big screen. The company recently announced that it is making a live-action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda.
It is not a new animated film but a live-action movie that will try to capture the magic of the successful action-adventure-fantasy saga created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka for Nintendo nearly 40 years ago.
In addition, the Japanese company changed partners on this occasion. He has joined forces with Arad Productions Inc. and Sony Pictures, who will distribute and finance a portion of the film. However, 50% of the budget will be provided by the Big N itself.
Wes Ball will direct the production. He is best known for the teenage action films of The Maze Runner trilogy and the soon-to-be-released Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. The first rather epic trailer for the latter was released a few days ago. It will arrive in 2024. It is not yet known who will write the Zelda movie script.
Finally, we also know that Shigeru Miyamoto will be a Nintendo producer, sharing that role with Avi Arad. He is a film impresario with extensive experience in film adaptations. He has also appeared in several Marvel superhero films for Sony and 20th Century Fox. Most recently, he also participated in the Uncharted movie (2021).
Nintendo justifies this new step with the mission to offer the public unique opportunities to learn about its worlds and characters.
We’ll see how this new endeavour goes. So far, needless to say, there is no news about the cast. No premiere date has been announced, but it is certain that time will be needed to implement the project.
