Capcom no longer denies that the second, third and fourth installments of Resident Evil will be followed by more remakes.

Resident Evil 2 Remake in 2019 showed how to modernize the original, which debuted on PS1 (and underwent a reboot), in a way that would appeal to fans. The RE Engine-powered project was followed a year later by a new vision for the third installment. It didn’t sell as many copies as its predecessor, but the quality wasn’t bad either. This spring saw the remake of the fourth installment, followed by the Separate Ways DLC in the fall, and once again Capcom showed excellent results both critically and in terms of sales.

In Japan, there was a PlayStation event where Yasuhiro Anpo, the director of the Resident Evil 4 Remake, appeared and basically confirmed that more remakes of the franchise are in the pipeline: “We’ve released three remakes so far, and they’ve all been very well received. Since it allows a modern audience to play these games, it is something I am happy to do as someone who loves these older games, and so we want to continue to do more. Which game we will remake in the future is something we would like to announce in the future, so please stay tuned.

When making a new game, there is no way to know what will be well received by players, which makes it difficult. In the case of a remake, there are already players who have played the original, which I think can be seen as an advantage. We are very grateful to the users who voice their opinions. It allows us to develop with the player’s opinion in mind. For example, if this is what the players think, then maybe we can make it that way. I think this is one of the reasons why our remakes are so well received,” Anpo said.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica doesn’t get much attention, but it’s still important to the story of the franchise. The first RE already got a remake on the GameCube (which got a modernized re-release 8 years ago), but this one could use some modernization as well. Then there’s Resident Evil 0, which also deserves some attention. And the last option is the obvious Resident Evil 5…
