TECH NEWS – The Redmond-based tech giant could be releasing new hardware soon, and the components could be revamped…
New design, chipset update… Windows Central has reported that the company isn’t just redesigning its devices, but also beefing up the specs. Given that Qualcomm recently unveiled the Snapdragon X Elite, we wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft is one of the companies to use the new technology in at least one of its products. According to the site, Microsoft could use it in both. According to Windows Central, there’s even talk of using Intel’s latest 14th-generation processors to give customers a choice, so they can choose not only ARM chipsets but also the latest Arrow Lake architecture.
Both models will come with an NPU (Neural Processing Unit) that can help optimize certain settings to improve power consumption or battery life, depending on what is needed. The Surface devices with Qualcomm chipsets are called CADMUS and will be based on Microsoft’s next-generation Windows (Windows 12?), codenamed Hudson Valley. With the departure of Panos Panay, Microsoft has taken a different direction, as this will allow the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 to compete with Apple’s portable Macs.
A new version of the Surface Laptop Go is reportedly not planned by the Redmond company, but that could change. A new Surface Laptop Studio is planned for 2025, but next year we’ll see how seriously the software-heavy company takes hardware. The current Surface lineup is too expensive and not very differentiating, so it’s time for a big change… but if that doesn’t work, others (like Apple) could take advantage of Microsoft’s position.
If Microsoft plans to lower the price of models based on the ARM chipset (because it’s not in the same league as Intel and AMD in the PC environment), this could be a good starting point.
