Fans of The Witcher 3 will soon be able to experience another adventure with Geralt of Rivia in the direct sequel to the game!
CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a direct sequel in the form of a comic instead of another video game. The game was initially released in 2015. To this day, it is considered one of the best fantasy RPGs due to its deep story, complex characters, and side quests that feel as important as the main quest.
Two expansions were released for the game, which continued the story of Geralt, who faced many new and powerful enemies, including a powerful vampire.
While both the base game and expansions offer multiple endings, some are preferred over others for obvious reasons. After completing the second expansion, Blood and Wine, Geralt owns an estate called Corvo Bianco in the beautiful Toussaint region. Players can choose whether the famous witcher wants to settle there by talking to the vampire’s friend, Regis. Along with Yennefer, Geralt’s (one) love interest, joining him on the estate, many fans took this as a sign that our hero has indeed retired.
Geralt and Yennefer’s retreat to Corvo Bianco now appears to be the canonical ending. This is confirmed by the synopsis of Dark Horse’s new comic book series, The Witcher: Corvo Bianco. The new series is a direct sequel after the conclusion of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Geralt and Yennefer, in the mood for a “slower pace,” return from retirement to face a new threat. The series is produced jointly by a legendary Italian artist, Corrado Mastantuono, and writer Bartosz Sztybor. The latter previously worked on other Witcher comics featuring Geralt. The comic is planned to be a five-volume series, with the first out on May 8 for $3.99.
It’s no surprise that CD Projekt Red keeps the world of The Witcher 3 fresh since this game earned the developer a lot of goodwill among players before the release of Cyberpunk 2077.
The game’s popularity led the developers to eventually debut the title on current consoles. Such as the PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S. Even eight years after its release, CD Projekt Red updated The Witcher 3.
In the comic book series, players can experience another adventure with Geralt and Yennefer. At the same time, it’s entirely possible that the recent Witcher comic series is setting up a sort of handover moment between Geralt and the new School of the Lynx protagonist of the next Witcher game.
