Square Enix admits that the second installment of the Final Fantasy VII remake should be played more than once.
During the Taipei Game Show, the Japanese publisher’s next big game was unveiled, and @Genki_JPN posted more about it on Twitter. Motomu Toriyama, co-director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, revealed that the game is designed to be played at least twice. That’s why there is a chapter selection feature, which was also seen in Final Fantasy VII Remake. There will certainly be additional content on the second playthrough (we saw this in the first “slice”!), so the game’s lifespan will be extended somewhat if we want to see everything.
At the event, Toriyama also revealed that the story of the original Final Fantasy VII has been expanded. There will be an episode on the Costa del Sol that wasn’t in the original PS1 title, but will be in the PlayStation 5 remake. In addition, some videos have also appeared on Twitter. We get to see more of the Chocobo race, Yuffie makes an appearance (who seems to have retained most of the fighting tools seen in the Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade DLC), we get to see the Titan Summoning and the Synergy attack of Aerith and Cait Sith (we wrote about this earlier when Square Enix revealed new information about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth). The last embedded video is from YouTube, and you can watch the Taipei Game Show panel there (you probably don’t need to know the language to understand some of the stuff).
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth doesn’t finish the remake of the original content, so there will definitely be at least a third part of the remake project. That’s years away, but not the subject of today’s news: it’s due out on February 29th for PlayStation 5, but there will definitely be a PC port later. (And rumor has it that Xbox won’t be left out either, as we’ve written before).
