Rumors suggest that during this year’s Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft’s E3 replacement show, the Redmond-based company may follow the lead of Hi-Fi Rush and talk about a handheld Xbox platform.
With only a few days to go until this year’s Xbox Games Showcase (and a deeper look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 after that), more rumors about the show are surfacing. A Spanish leaker, eXtas, says based on his own sources that they will suddenly release a first-party, i.e. internally developed Xbox-exclusive title during the event (because we don’t see them doing that with a multiplatform game of their own).
So maybe they’ll show something on June 9th around 10 AM Pacific (because that’s when the Xbox Games Showcase starts). It could be a beta, it could be a demo, it could be a full game, but it could also be a surprise release like Hi-Fi Rush. The most likely is the side-scrolling fantasy action game Towerborne, formerly called Project Belfry, being developed by Stoic, known for The Banner Saga. It’s set in a colorful but post-apocalyptic world where aces stand between monsters and the tower they defend. You can fight solo or in teams of four with other players. There will also be four fighting styles (clubs, gauntlets, double daggers, and swords and shields), and the world map will evolve over time with seasonal content.
The leaker even said that a teaser video might be shown or the portable Xbox platform might be mentioned. The Xbox handheld was even hinted at by Xbox CEO Phi Spencer at this year’s GDC. So what else can we expect? DOOM: The Dark Ages (id Software), Gears 6 (The Coalition), Perfect Dark reboot (The Initiative, Crystal Dynamics), Fable reboot (Playground Games), Avowed, Ara: History Untold, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Microsoft Flight Simulator, Clockwork Revolution, State of Decay 3, South of Midnight…
They have a lot to choose from.
