Polyphony Digital’s game for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 has a really funny bug, and it’s been captured by many.
Gran Turismo 7 received its 1.49 update on July 25th. The update, originally intended to be completely harmless, brought with it a humorous bug. A “certain car setting” (because of course you can tune your car to your taste and track, which has been part of the franchise since the first episode!) made the cars fly into the air. Red Bull gives you wings, but maybe the cars shouldn’t be so far removed from reality!
Of course, this didn’t stop the public from catching the bug, and Twitter and Reddit were flooded with pictures of the cars behaving in a rather erratic manner. Not only the player cars, but also the AI cars didn’t take the rules of physics seriously, so no one got away with the bug. Polyphony Digital, of course, responded: “We are now aware of the following issue. Unintended vehicle behavior is being produced when a specific car setting is set in the Car Settings… This issue is currently under investigation. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

According to Reddit, the physics affect both the game’s cutscenes and VR mode, so there are a variety of ways in which this fun but otherwise out-of-game bug can occur. The July update for Gran Turismo 7 brought a new track, six new cars and new rims. The track is the Eiger Norwand, last seen in Gran Turismo 6 (a game released for PS3 when the PlayStation 4 was already on the market). Sophy, the game’s artificial intelligence pilot, can now race on the Autodrome Lago Maggiore and the Nürburgring 24 Hours thanks to the update.
