Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR Announces Another Adaptation Coming to Netflix [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – Keanu Reeves appeared at the BRZRKR panel at SDCC on Saturday, where it was announced that, in addition to the live-action adaptation of the comic, an animated series is also in development at Netflix. Like the much-anticipated movie, the series will feature Reeves voicing the main character. The anime series will draw significant inspiration from The Animatrix, the animated spin-off of The Matrix, with Mattson Tomlinson, writer of Terminator Zero and The Batman II, penning and showrunning the project.

During the panel, Reeves read an excerpt from the new BRZRKR novel to an enthusiastic crowd, as captured in several videos from the event. You can watch Reeves’ reading in the clip below.

In the very first John Wick Keanu Reeves was a master assassin who tried to retire from his profession. But this discreet civilian life is upended when his car is stolen, and his dog who was left to him by his late wife is killed. In next to no time, he is back on the streets gunning to take down those that did him wrong. That leads him to the front door of a powerful mob boss' son. John Wick: Chapter 2 in which he will go to Rome, will further explore the assassin's world.

BRZRKR Chronicles an Immortal Warrior’s 80,000-Year Battle Through Time

BRZRKR is the “brutally violent, epic comic book saga” co-written by Keanu Reeves and New York Times best-selling author Matt Kindt (Folklords, Justice League of America), with art by Ron Garney (Wolverine, Captain America), Eisner and Harvey Award-nominated colorist Bill Crabtree (BPRD), and letterer Clem Robins (Hellboy), following an immortal warrior’s 80,000-year battle across the ages.

“The man known only as ‘B’ is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and driven to violence, even at the cost of his sanity. After wandering the world for centuries, this mysterious mercenary may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight battles that are too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In return, he will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence… and how to end it.”

Reeves is expected to take on the title role in the upcoming live-action project, with the John Wick star also considering directing, working from a script written by Mattson Tomlin (The Batman Part 2). Reeves has previously directed the 2013 martial arts film Man of Tai Chi.

“I know it’s a lot of work, but the film I directed, Man of Tai Chi, came about because I was part of the writing process, and I didn’t want to hand it over. I was like, okay, I have to direct this. I’m not quite there yet with ‘BRZRKR’. I need to read the script, but I’m also interested in having a collaborator and seeing what they could bring to it.”

Whether he directs or not, Reeves has expressed his desire to make the adaptation R-rated, revealing that this is also something Netflix is keen on.

“We’re working with Netflix, who have been very cool. They’re going to let us do an R-rated story, which is great. My ambition or hope is not to make a filmed version of the comic book so that there will be things in common, definitely the main character and his rule set, but also to explore other places as well.”

Outside of BRZRKR, Keanu Reeves has plenty of projects in the pipeline, including returning as John Wick in the spinoff Ballerina, Jonah Hill’s black comedy Outcome, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, in which he will voice Shadow.
