David Lynch Discussed His Serious Illness – Will He Give Up Filmmaking for Good?!

MOVIE NEWS – David Lynch told what his life is like with the lung disease, because of which he can hardly even leave his home…

David Lynch revealed that he was diagnosed with emphysema, a chronic lung disease, due to “many years of smoking”.

The Hollywood filmmaker, who was behind the hit mystery TV series Twin Peaks, Dune, Blue Velvet and a host of other legendary films, said despite the diagnosis, he is in “excellent shape” and will “never retire”.

In an interview with the British film magazine Sight and Sound, the 78-year-old man said that the disease affects his mobility, which means that he will only be able to direct films from a distance in the future. Now on X, Lynch previously tweeted that his diagnosis was the “price” to pay for his smoking habit but revealed that he quit two years ago.

Emphysema is a form of COPD or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. It occurs when the air sacs in the lungs are damaged. The main symptoms are shortness of breath, persistent chest cough, frequent chest infections and wheezing. Breathing problems gradually worsen over time. The leading cause of COPD is smoking, although the condition can sometimes affect people who have never smoked.

“I have to say I enjoyed smoking very much,” he wrote “, but there is a price to pay for this enjoyment.”

Lynch revealed that despite having to live with this condition, she says she is “filled with happiness” and thanked fans for their concern. Lynch directed ten feature films during his career, including the Academy Award-nominated Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet and The Elephant Man.

His last film project was the reboot of the third season of Twin Peaks entitled Twin Peaks: The Return, which was released in the United States in 2017. His most recent work was a musical with the singer Chrystabell.
