Gladiator II Needs to Gross $1 Billion? [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – The original Gladiator earned $460 million 24 years ago, so for the sequel, coming to theaters this fall, to be equally successful commercially, it would need to gross around $1 billion.

At least that’s the calculation by ScreenRant, adding that a billion-dollar revenue is unlikely, but if Gladiator II grosses at least $500-600 million, which is a reasonable estimate, everyone will be satisfied. More optimistic projections predict $700 million, considering the film’s star power and spectacular action scenes. ScreenRant based its calculations on the fact that the 2000 Gladiator cost $104 million and made 4.4 times its budget. The budget for Gladiator II is rumored to be $310 million, as director Ridley Scott didn’t hold back, and the Hollywood strikes increased expenses. The producing studio, Paramount, tried to calm things down, saying the production cost $250 million. Thus, ScreenRant’s $1 billion estimate assumes the sequel is as successful as the original.
