Square Enix announces Final Fantasy Type-0 for PlayStation 4

It looks like PlayStation 4 is finally about to get another RPG in the near future. (The only RPG so far was Child of Light.) Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy Type-0 will be coming to the PS4. Unfortunately they didn’t have anything to share in terms of a release date, though considering it’s a port of an existing game (it was originally made for the original Sony PSP and only launched in Japan) it shouldn’t take too long. That, of course, could change if Square Enix decides to do a massive remastering.

Final Fantasy Type-0 is a action RPG that follows the story of Class Zero, a group of students from a magic academy whose worlds are shaken up when they are tasked with helping defeat the Milites Empire.

The game doesn’t follow the main Final Fantasy story arc. Instead, it’s part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis that features Final Fantasy 13, Final Fantasy 13-2 and the upcoming Final Fantasy XV. It might not be the super huge blockbuster RPG we’re on the lookout for, but this should be enough to keep you satiated until the big guns are ready. Watch an old gameplay trailer from the PSP version above.

There was a bit of controversy about Sony’s previous press release which has also mentioned a PS Vita version. It was a mistake from Sony’s part, because Square didn’t plan at all to make a PS Vita version of the game, which would actually make sense because of the PSP development. Anyway the fact that this statement was withdrawn has caused a massive uproar form PS Vita users on sites like Kotaku, who were a bit unhappy already because of lack of release on the PS Vita.

While it’s a bit sad that this title won’t make it on the Vita, it has to be mentioned that lately we had especially good RPG releases: in Mars we had the remastered (end excellent) Final Fantasy X, and not long ago Soul Sacrifice Delta and Destiny of Spirits (the latter is a free-to-play online social strategy game) so I am honestly rather lacking time to even play those at their full extent then needing ANOTHER JRPG.

Anyway the game is at least coming to PS4, so let’s rejoice.
