Konami is tricky: instead of publishing sold copies, they have only mentioned the amount shipped copies. It looks like the Japanese firm’s approach in 2015 is continuing this year, too.
As Konami said, until December 31, six million copies of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was shipped to sellers (and don’t forget, it released on five platforms simultaneously). This includes both digital and physical copies. Why didn’t they reveal the SOLD amount, like how Sony does with their PlayStation 4 results?
Konami considers Pro Evolution 2016 as „a meaningful amount sold”, and they also pointed out a Japanese mobile game as a success. (Which means that their tendency of going to mobile games from AAA titles are continuing.) Digital sales jumped by 37.5% year-over-year from 67.9B JPY to 93.4B. The profit also improved from 10.7B to 25.5B Japanese Yen.
The amount of respect lost in the eyes of gamers: invaluable. For everything else, there’s Mastercard. One more thing: their pachinko division lost money.
