PlayStation VR is technically weaker than Oculus Rift and not for the children

PlayStation VR is like the modern gaming’s Yeti. We keep hearing about it more and more, yet we still have no idea when it’s going to launch and how much money will it require to get one. We heard more new details about this headset.

The 3.50 PlayStation 4 firmware mentions the PlayStation VR. Apparently, the usage of the virtual reality headset is not recommended for children below the age of 12 due to the IPD. The IPD is the interpupillary distance – the distance between the pupils of our eyes. For children, it’s not fully developed, and Sony did not consider this factor during the development.

Also, Sony Computer Entertainment’s vice president, Masayasu Ito threw some oil on the fire. In his interview with Polygon, he admitted that the Oculus Rift is likely to provide higher quality VR! He quickly added that the Rift needs a high-spec PC while the PSVR is meant to be a mass-market device, requiring only a PlayStation 4 and no more.

Mass market? That makes sense; the PlayStation 4 is over 36 million sales according to the latest sales data. If the pricing is right, Ito’s thought would be understandable.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
