February sales: a surprising winner!

NPD has come around the corner with the February 2016 sales information in the United States for both the consoles and the games. While one of the charts brought up no shock results, the other one saw an unexpected winner. Let’s take a look.

Unsurprisingly, PlayStation 4 won February against the Xbox One. Players also bought games mostly for the PS4. Still, compared to the February 2015 numbers, sales dropped by 23%, especially because of the drop in handheld sales (-58%). Prev-gen (-77%) and current-gen sales also dropped (-6%).

What about the games’ top list? Here we go:

  1. Far Cry Primal (PS4, Xbox One)
  2. Call of Duty: Black Ops III (Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
  3. Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
  4. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 (PS4, Xbox One)
  5. NBA 2K16 (PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3)
  6. Lego Marvel Avengers (PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, PS3, 3DS, PlayStation Vita)
  7. Street Fighter V (PS4)
  8. Minecraft (Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS4, PS3)
  9. Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright (3DS)
  10. Fallout 4 (PS4, Xbox One, PC)

Yes, Far Cry Primal finally dethroned Call of Duty: Black Ops III. GTA V still gets sold a lot – Rockstar’s title keeps hovering around on the top list month in, month out. Street Fighter V only managed to finish 7 – Naruto SUNS had the better of Capcom’s game in 4th place. Nintendo can also be happy: the new Fire Emblem finished in 9th place.
