The new developers of Dead Island 2 are…

It’s been a while since Deep Silver threw out the previous developers (Yager of Spec Ops: The Line fame) out – in fact, it happened in July, over half a year ago! However, no further information was mentioned about who will take over the development of the troubled Dead Island 2. Perhaps this is why there’s going to be a current-gen re-release of both the first game and Riptide in May.

The new devs behind the second numbered installment of Dead Island will be Sumo Digital. Last time we saw a big release from them was LittleBigPlanet 3, as Media Molecule decided to focus on their new IP, Dreams. Previously, Sumo also worked on a Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed as well. Their resume also lists Forza Horizon 2 presents Fast & Furious, Disney Infinity 3.0 while having a hand in the development of Crackdown 3, too.

Deep Silver‘s statement says choosing Sumo makes perfect sense. Hopefully, the team will be able to get the game back on track!
