Steam’s Review System Goes Under Another Strict Change

Gabe Newell and his team make more changes.

Valve already overhauled Steam’s review system last September, but they have gone a step further, effectively locking out a few people from having their voice heard in a sense.

From now on, review scores will no longer include any reviews by those who received the game for free, whether it’s a gift, a promo code, or a free weekend. Mind you, this change only affects the scores, so if you got a freebie game, you could still write a review for it. This change means that a few game’s ratings will get adjusted. Steam has made this step to „better reflect the investing, paying customers’ sentiment.”

There will be a few exceptions, where the old system stays, though: free and free-to-play games will still have everyone’s word „count” towards the total/average rating.
