One of the main creators behind Uncharted thinks that the lack of work released from her is having an impact on her.
Hennig was one of the essential people behind the success of Uncharted, but since then, she moved to Electronic Arts. She talked with Sean Vanaman (co-founder of Campo Santo – their latest game at the moment is Firewatch) in Polygon‘s 2017 year in review. She admitted that as she ages, she runs into problems during game development!
„So I’ve worked on probably 15 games or something like that, over 28 years. Not all of them got published. But now I look at it and go, ‘Well if a game takes three, four, five years to make, and I’m 53, how many at-bats do I have left?’ And you don’t want to waste those,” she said.
„I haven’t had something published since 2011, and it’s killing me. I worked on Uncharted 4 for two and a half years, and then I worked on the Star Wars game for three and a half years. A lot of the work, thankfully, lived on in U4, and we’ll see what happens with the Star Wars thing,” Hennig added. Here, she meant 2011’s Uncharted 3, as well as the deceased Visceral’s Star Wars game, which was moved over to EA Vancouver to convert the single player, story-focused title into a multiplayer one. „But you think, ‘OK, wait a second. It was that easy to burn six years and not publish anything.’ So I look at it and go … ‘how many bullets do I have left in the chamber?’ I want to make sure that I make the right choices,” she added. She already worked on games in 1994 – back then, she was one of the creators behind Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City, but she also worked on the Legacy of Kain series.
Let’s hope that we’ll see more great games by her… although previously, we also heard that she had a bit of strong-handed approach to game development as well. (We wrote about that in detail.)
