Amazon Bets Big on ‘God of War’ – The Screenwriter Confirms a Two-Season Deal

MOVIE NEWS – Amazon has full confidence in its God of War series for Prime Video. The show’s screenwriter has revealed that he has signed a contract for two seasons.

Development for the God of War TV series on Prime Video finally seems to be progressing smoothly. Although the project faced setbacks a few months ago with the departure of its original screenwriting duo, Amazon wasted no time in finding a replacement. They brought in Ronald D. Moore, the creator of Battlestar Galactica, who has now confirmed that his contract spans two full seasons.

A Sci-Fi Icon Steps Into the Gaming World

The writer and producer behind For All Mankind and a key figure in the Star Trek franchise refrained from sharing further details about the project but admitted that catching up with the video game has been a challenge. “I’m not really a gamer, you know? I used to be decent at arcade games, but modern controllers… I lose focus for a second, and I’m dead. My kids are way ahead of me, and so is my wife,” he said during a recent podcast interview with actress Katee Sackhoff. He also mentioned that his wife, costume designer Terry Dresbach, is an avid fan of The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim.

Production Details Remain Under Wraps

It is unclear whether Moore’s comment about Skyrim was just an offhand remark or a subtle hint at an interest in adapting Bethesda’s fantasy franchise. Given Todd Howard’s enthusiasm for adapting Fallout, which is currently filming its second season, the possibility might not be far-fetched. However, for now, the focus remains on the God of War adaptation. The project still lacks a confirmed filming start date, and no actor has been announced for the lead role.

Reports suggest that the series will follow the modern iterations of the God of War franchise developed by Santa Monica Studio—those set within Norse mythology. While this has yet to be officially confirmed, fans might expect an update by March 22, which marks the 20th anniversary of the franchise. Meanwhile, another PlayStation adaptation, The Last of Us, returns for its second season on Max, premiering on April 14.
