What a turn of events in just ten days.
About ten days ago, Realtech VR announced that on Steam, the first three Tomb Raider games’ remaster would show up on Steam in the future. The news got to Square Enix, who own Lara’s rights. They replied with a short statement: „While we always welcome passion and excitement for the Tomb Raider franchise, the remasters in question were initiated and advertised without seeking approval. As such, they were never officially sanctioned.”
Realtech VR deleted all footage, and they wrote the following on Twitter: „After this episode, we are refocusing on new projects involving Augmented Reality on iOS and VR on PC. We are not more committed to third-party license anymore.”
Who would like to bet money on Square Enix „stealing” the idea to release the collection themselves? (They could do a collection with the first five games. Let’s not talk about 2003’s Angel of Darkness, though. JUST NO.)
