A State Could Jail You For Swatting Shortly!

Indeed: pranking someone by calling the police on them for reporting a serious crime (which, in reality, didn’t happen), could result in a sentence in prison!

In December, a 28-year-old man, Andrew Finch, was killed by police in Kansas, after the law enforcement received a call. The swatting, after a fake report, thus resulted in a loss of life. Respecting the unfortunate incident, a bill was created.

The Andrew T. Finch anti-swatting bill is heading towards Jeff Colyer, Kansas’ senator. If he approves the bill, the swatting prank caller could receive between ten and forty-one years of a prison sentence, depending on their criminal history. The worst case scenario would be a death sentence…

Lisa Finch, Andrew’s mother, told KSN that she’s pleased about the bill. „It is amazing to me. I’m very happy that it’s named after my son. If it prevents even one tragedy like this happening to another family, that will be amazing,” she said.

Swatting is not a joke.
