Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey’s Post-Launch Plans And Season Pass Revealed [VIDEO]

And, as a surprise, the Greek Assassin’s Creed will also show up on the Nintendo Switch!

This year’s AC game will have both free updates and paid content as well. Getting the Season Pass isn’t a good idea for the two story arcs (more on that later), but for another reason, too. Ubisoft will repeat what they did with Far Cry 5 – they will add an extra game (or, in this case, two games) in the shape of a re-release into the mix for those who pay more money.

If you buy the season pass, you’ll get Assassin’s Creed III‘s and Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation’s Remastered version. AC III will have all the DLC, as well as 4K and HDR support on PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X, plus it will have improved gameplay mechanics, higher resolution textures and other visual improvements. It can be bought separately as well (of course…), and it will launch in March on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation started out as a PlayStation Vita game, but now it will head to the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One along with the PC re-release in „full HD” resolution. (Which sounds like the current-gen console versions will be nothing more than an a RE-RELEASE…) There’s no release date mentioned in the press release.

Quoting the press release regarding the story arcs (which will be part of the season pass): „Story Arc 1 – Legacy of the First Blade: This episodic adventure will introduce players to the first hero to wield the iconic hidden blade, changing the course of history. Players will learn more about the backstory of the Assassins and why they choose to fight from the shadows. Starting December 2018, episodes will be released approximately six weeks apart.

Story Arc II – The Fate of Atlantis: In the second story arc, players will confront godly creatures and uncover the secrets of the legendary sunken city. In a surprising saga filled with twists and turns, players will get even closer to Greek mythology and the First Civilization. Coming spring 2019, episodes will be released approximately six weeks apart.” So Ubisoft takes over the Dontnod/Telltale episodic formula? What a surprise.

What about the free updates? Quoting the press release again: „The Lost Tales of Greece: Free episodic questlines will regularly release in-between episodes, providing a constant flow of new stories for players to discover. These quests will feature familiar faces and new characters from the world of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

Each week a new epic ship or mercenary will appear, presenting players with challenging battles as they hunt down these powerful enemies. Daily and weekly contracts will send players on new quests across Greece; and many more updates, including new monstrous and mythical creatures to defy and a New Game Plus mode presenting new challenges and the ability to see how different choices affect players’ stories.” There will also be the Discovery Tour, which, like in Assassin’s Creed: Origins, will be a non-combat, educational game mode.

Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey will launch on October 5 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC… and the Nintendo Switch in Japan! The game will get a cloud version, but there’s no info about a Western release for the Switch edition yet.
