It’s Official: Microsoft Acquired Obsidian Entertainment (As Well)! [VIDEO]

This year, Microsoft has started a major acquisition spree (which we might have mentioned during E3), and this time, another two teams joined the „greens”. One of them, Obsidian, was previously discussed in the form of a rumour, but the other group is surprising!

The Redmond-based company announced that it purchased two more studios to develop Xbox/Windows 10 titles. One of them is Feargus Urquhart-led Obsidian Entertainment (Fallout: New Vegas, South Park: The Stick of Truth, or Pillars of Eternity, whose latest instalment was discussed on our site a few days ago, saying how bad it was on PC…), which was formed in 2003 by Black Isle Studios veterans. They also announced the situation in a video.

The other studio is inXile Entertainment, headed by Interplay-founder (first two Fallout games – Urquhart had involvement in the first one! -, as well as Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, Bard’s Tale, MDK, Planescape: Torment, Wasteland…) Brian Fargo. From this team, we saw Wasteland 2, Torment: Tides of Numenera or Bard’s Tale 4 in the past few years, and they are working on Wasteland 3 at the moment.

So, Microsoft is expanding towards RPGs it seems. We have to see what these teams will make, and how the Microsoft-acquisition would affect their projects. Especially inXile – they crowdfunded Wasteland 3 as a multiplatform title!

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
