Michael Gamble, the lead producer at BioWare (the developers of Anthem), revealed on Twitter why they decided to use this approach.
„[I] had a few people ask me about why we are doing an open Anthem Demo. This is why: your money is hard earned. Games are an investment. We think it’s fair you get to try before you buy. The entire campaign has been one of transparency, and we think Anthem is cool to watch but AWESOME to play,” Gamble said, who later responded to a fan saying that it wasn’t easy for them to make a demo: „Demos take a lot of extra time and effort to make. One day when I have a moment I’ll go through why.”
Gamble also „heard” a fan „loud and clear” about requesting a social hub. It’s reasonable, as Anthem is similar to Destiny, and Bungie’s game also has a social hub where players can interact with each other. (It’s not going to be Fort Tarsis, though – that is for single-player.)
Anthem will launch on February 22 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
