Command & Conquer Remastered Is In Development; New UI Revealed!

After Electronic Arts pissing off its Command & Conquer fans last E3 by announcing Command & Conquer: Rivals for mobile (both iOS and Android) at last year’s EA Play, they had to do something for the hardcore PC community. The publisher is keeping its word.

Electronic Arts published a Reddit post, where they confirmed that Command & Conquer Remastered has left pre-production, and thus, Petroglyph and Lemon Sky started serious work on the remastering for this 1995 strategy game! In fact, they are going so well that the multiplayer is already in a playable state (and let’s face it, Command & Conquer really opens up in multiplayer…), and the art team is focusing on upgrading the visuals to 4K. They started with the user interface.

„We’ve done our best to capture the visual spirit of Tiberian Dawn, and of course would embrace a similar approach for Red Alert. All of these changes are done in the aspiration of keeping the spirit of the legacy sidebar while optimising for a modern RTS gameplay experience,” Jim Vessella, the producer wrote.

There are a few changes in the sidebar indeed: for example, there’s less scrolling in it, and Petroglyph listened to the players by bringing back the tabs from Red Alert 2 and Tiberium Wars, becoming an essential part of the UI in Command & Conquer Remastered. Every building is now under one tab, and there is space for eighteen buttons, allowing a lot of possibilities. Therefore, you can get to the things you want easily, although you have to learn which button does what.

Command & Conquer Remastered has no release date yet, but it’s likely a long time away, but as good work (as well as a good strategist…) needs time, let the guys do their job.
