Sumo Digital Is Working On Two Games For Take-Two

We wonder whether it’s a good idea for Take-Two (or its sublabel, 2K, same thing, though…) to work together with Sumo Digital developer team.

We have our doubts because Sumo Digital was working on Crackdown 3, available on Xbox One and Windows 10, for several years, and… let’s just say that it was not a major success. Oh, and this studio is also supposedly working on Dead Island 2, but we have seen nothing of their work yet so far. (Thus the word supposedly.)

Still, Sumo Digital announced the following: „We’re delighted to be working with 2K and look forward to disclosing details of the projects in due course,” said Sumo Digital managing director Gary Dunn. According to the statement, the projects are in development at Sumo’s Sheffield studio, as well as Red Kite Games (God of War 3 Remastered [PlayStation 4], Call of Duty: Strike Team [mobile]), which was acquired earlier this year. Officially, that’s all we know, but we can go deeper.

Amongst Sumo Digital‘s job offers, Sumo Sheffield is looking for a technical director for a first-person multiplayer action game, and they’d appreciate if we have experience in „first-person action games and the games as a service model.” So Take-Two is taking a shot at the model used by Anthem and Battlefield V recently over at Electronic Arts. But there’s also another technical director listing requiring live service experience, an animator post needs first-person experience, and the programming offers appreciate experience in multiplayer games. These can be tied to one project. We have no idea about the second project.

So Take-Two is starting to focus on the next generation. Let’s be real: Sumo Digital takes its time with Dead Island 2, and what’s the point of starting development on a potential AAA game in the middle of 2019 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One?
