S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl’s Remaster Mod Is Out Shortly [VIDEO]

Ukrainian GSC Game World‘s game, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl is going to get a respectable update shortly.

March 23 2007. That’s the date when S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl was released in our region by THQ after several delays and pushes back in the calendar. It was an outstanding survival horror in its time. The story had us in The Zone around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, and we had to go deeper until we was around reactor four (we have to mention that in this alternate universe, a second catastrophe happened, so it’s not based on the original 1986 events!), where chugging vodka was no longer enough (although it temporarily did help you get through the radiation poisoning): unless you had perfect protection, radiation would have killed you immediately.

Now, it is getting a remaster mod, and its developer, Strelokkkkk, announced that his work is going to be released shortly, and he celebrated it with a new trailer, which shows how much the game’s visuals have improved in the near thirteen years since the launch of the original. There will be 4K skyboxes, a new particle system (complete with a dynamic collision with static objects), and an increased poly count for NPC (up to 70 or even 80 thousand) and the mutants, as well for some static and dynamic objects as well. The improved god rays and lighting system also makes the game look more natural and less bright (which is reasonable for a survival horror title).

The mod, which will be quite big (around thirty gigabytes), will be compatible with the international GOG version of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl, making the installation of the mod fairly easy for everyone. Later, Call of Pripyat and Clear Sky, the two other games in the series, will also get the same treatment! (And a personal note: the trailer music feels a little… off compared to the tone of the game.)
