343 Industries doesn’t sit around for too long: they will bring the Halo games one by one to PC.
The developers wrote about their plans on the Halo Waypoint forums. They didn’t rest that much: Halo Reach was completed on PC in December after a hefty testing procedure. In the post, they talk about the PC version of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.
The FPS, which originally came out in 2001, is already available for those who are in rings 1 and 2. (343 Industries uses a ring system with testing. The first two rings include the studio’s external, close partners.) The third ring, including a few lucky PC players, get the chance to experience 343 Industries’ work on Bungie’s game in February.
The studio calls the beta tests „flights.” They are testing the game’s single-player and co-op campaign, multiplayer mode, customization options and progression, which will be added throughout the year. „These areas are focused into the following gameplay elements which will include validating dedicated servers, peer-to-peer connections, crossplay between Steam and Windows version, and the new UI for customization in Halo: Combat Evolved,” 343’s Engagement Coordinator, Tyler „Postums” Davis writes.
It’s not easy to get into the third ring in testing. You have to have your Halo Insider profile up-to-date with a verified email, opt-in for 343 Industries to contact you, opt-in for PC flighting, and after all of that, have your latest DxDiag uploaded to your profile. (This is DirectX’ diagnostic tool that allows the developers to see your rig’s configuration.)
343 Industries wants Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary to be in the PC version of Halo: The Master Chief Collection by the end of the year. That sounds a little too humble – if they already want to test the game, that means it’s not in an early state. But the time will allow them to fine-tune the game, with the help of the community’s feedback, which is respectable.
