PlayStation 5: Did Sony Re-Plan The Console’s Reveal?

Sony might have turned a few third-party publishers’ plans upside down with the proper reveal of the next-gen PlayStation 5.

AestheticGamer (who we previously mentioned with the Resident Evil 8 reboot and Konami’s plans of Silent Hill…) wrote the following on Twitter: „Since some people are asking me about a tweet I made, to clarify what I mean about the PS5 being “reworked”. The more accurate thing is it was replanned a bit. This is not anything recent, this was actually years ago as far as I know. I don’t know enough to give a solid answer on what exactly went down, but what I do know is that several announcements were shuffled around due to some changes in certain things being revealed. I know a few game announcements from third parties were affected by some changes in planning though, that’s the core of what I know.” One of the affected games could be from Capcom, who might be using the RE Engine for more remakes, but Dino Crisis not in the plans. (They might be having a new game. Dragon’s Dogma 2? Deep Down? Does anyone remember Deep Down?)

Dutch Let’s Go Digital found out that Sony Interactive Entertainment has filed the trademark of the PlayStation 5 at IGE IPI (Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property) in computer software, game discs, game consoles and interactive entertainment categories (9, 28, and 41). It means the console’s reveal is heading our way at a rapid pace. The February rumours could be true…

Tidux, a reliable industry insider, compared the PlayStation 5 with the Xbox Series X on Twitter. He says the CPU will be the same or equal in both next-gen consoles. The GPU will be better in Microsoft’s console (but by less than 1 TFLOPS). However, the RAM will be better in Sony’s new hardware due to its bandwidth and size, meaning the PlayStation 5 could have more, speedier RAM than the Xbox Series X. The SSD could also be bigger and faster in Sony’s console. (We wrote about the Xbox Series X’ SSD recently.) Performance-wise, Tidux believes the PlayStation 5 is ahead of its competitor. He added that Sony has sent out the final PS5 devkits.

The PlayStation 5 might be revealed in February. The console launches this holiday season. The pricing and release day is just question marks for now.
