The PlayStation 4 And The Xbox One Are Outdated, Says Halo’s Co-Creator

How typical: as we get close to the launch of the new consoles, it becomes trendy to talk down the old ones. Marcus Lehto has done the same.

Lehto is the co-creator of Halo, so he has a lot of experience. Nowadays, he is working on Disintegration. Let’s see what he told VGC: „[The SSDs in the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X] will make a huge difference. It will open up the door for more expansive content that can stream a lot faster. Players won’t be waiting on load screens and we won’t have to hide loading behind cinematics and that kind of thing. It will just help make things a lot more seamless and fluid for the player when it comes to their experience on those consoles.” Keep in mind that by streaming, he didn’t mean the Google Stadia-like streaming but the data streaming in the console to display the result on your screen.

Then, he moved on to criticise the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One: „I am really excited about [the next-gen consoles’ SSD] because that’s one of the things that’s really hard for us in particular right now: dealing with those old platforms. These platforms have been around for what, seven years? Developing for them is like developing for machinery in the stone age,” Lehto added.

He could have used some lighter words. Fine, the two current consoles are getting old, but the PlayStation 4 still became one of the best-selling consoles of all time. It might never reach the PlayStation 2’s record, but it could get close. Still, saying all this over SSDs is… weird, but… it’s his opinion.

Both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X will launch this Holiday season.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
