Splinter Cell is back with an animated series for Netflix and its first details emerge

MOVIE NEWS -Derek Kolstad, screenwriter for the John Wick films, will be behind the script and its production.

It is no secret that Ubisoft is fully betting on Netflix. We’ve known for a long time that a film adaptation of The Division is on the way, and animations from Watch Dogs, Far Cry, Skull & Bones, Rayman and the Rabbids have also been discussed. In case it did not seem enough, to all of these we must also add one (also animated) from Splinter Cell.

The news comes from Variety, one of the most reliable portals in terms of current cinema. In it, it is collected that the screenwriter Derek Kolstad, recognized today for his work in the three films of John Wick, will be in charge of the script and will also exercise the role of executive producer, a fairly common combination in that industry.

According to unspecified sources from Variety, Ubisoft and Netflix have agreed to a total of 16 episodes spread over two seasons. The standard of these productions is 8 episodes per season, so it would not be anything strange, although as we say it is information pending confirmation by those responsible.

Considering that fans have been calling for the return of the Splinter Cell saga to video games for years — we haven’t heard from Sam Fisher since Blacklist, except for spin-offs and collaborations with other Ubisoft video games — many are likely dissatisfied with this idea, but at least they are not alone: a couple of weeks ago, those of us who are expecting a Dragon’s Dogma 2 as of May water also received the announcement of a Netflix series without any other kind of context for the future of the saga.
