Black Myth: Wu Kong: You Can Never Have Enough Of Journey To The West [VIDEO]

We seem to hear a game based on Wu Cheng’en’s mythological novel each year – now it’s time for Black Myth: Wu Kong…

This time, a Chinese studio called Game Science decided to make an action RPG based on it. This team was formerly behind a multiplayer strategy title called Art of War: Red Tides. According to their announcement, Black Myth: Wu Kong will launch on „all mainstream consoles and PC,” and cloud platforms that can run the game smoothly are also being considered.

The game’s website has a FAQ in Chinese, and we’ll quote two parts of it. The first question is „How long is the game and will there will be more heroes or an online mode?”, and its answer is: „Currently no comment on this. What weighs on our minds the most is that [studio head and game director] Yocar loves playing console action games full of tangible and solid stories, variations of jobs/weapons experience, and support for an online co-op mode…”

The second question is simple: „When will the game release?” The answer follows: „While we will not necessarily need 500 years finish, we will ship it only when we feel satisfied as players. But we will also consider performance and cost ratio, as well as marginal effect. After all, more works in the Black Myth series are in serious planning (in our dreams).” That 500 years thing is a reference to Journey to the West. Monkey King was imprisoned beneath Wu Zhi Shan mountain for that much time.

The team is currently looking for employees to work on the game, and it is confirmed to be a one-time purchase. However, Game Science doesn’t rule out the possibility of DLC or in-game purchases in the future, as long as they don’t include growth boost or provide a competitive advantage.

Black Myth: Wu Kong is coming… whenever, possibly on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
