The Developers Say The PS5 SSD Will Know More Than Fast Loading

The SSD is still the component of the PS5 architecture that is most talked about: an important change is coming.

It seems evident, from what we are seeing in recent months, that the PS5’s marketing strategy focuses on three fundamental aspects: the haptic vibration of the DualSense, the benefits of 3D Audio and the extra power that the SSD provides. Precisely, this last aspect has been discussed by various developers on the PlayStation blog, delving into the main benefits it brings to the next-generation Sony console.

Some creatives from the first launch PS5 games have highlighted the contributions that they can include in their work thanks to the SSD, which go far beyond its speed and almost instantaneous load. For example, Brian Horton, creative director of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, points out that “its speed allows more detailed elements to load and display more quickly.”

The SSD will go much further than instant uploads or higher speed, providing options for creatives.

Gavin Moore, creative director of SIE Japan Studio, a team that is working on Demon’s Souls, indicates for his part that they are already changing their way of thinking with the SSD and now “they do not see it only as storage, but also as memory, and we use the speed of the SSD to load data at incredible speeds.” A similar opinion to that of Neil Hill, lead programmer of Far Cry 6, who thinks that the SSD is going to change the rules of the game and that it will allow us to see “amazing innovations in streaming and design of open-world games”.

Sony has recently published a television spot in which the three bases on which they have sustained the promotion of PS5 are praised: vibration of the control, 3D Audio and the capabilities of the SSD. Elements that can be differential, although it depends on various factors. For that we will have to see the result with the console in front of us; will be closer when the price and release date of PS5 is revealed.
