CD Project RED Has Already Invested More Than € 100 Million In Its Games

The developer of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher series, CD Project RED, increased its development spending by 77% in the first half of 2020.

With Cyberpunk 2077 on the way and a development process that has taken longer than originally planned, CD Projekt RED has already invested more than 100 million euros in the development of its internal projects. In their latest financial report, where they have also reiterated that they do not foresee further delays in the dates of the game, the company publishes its spending figures with a considerable increase compared to 2019.

As reported in Tweaktown, the accumulated spending of CD Projekt in its current internal developments (until June 30) amounts to about 448,513 million zlotys, the approximate equivalent of 100.78 million euros with the current exchange rate. As we mentioned at the beginning, this investment is not only focused on Cyberpunk 2077 but also includes the rest of the projects underway within CD Projekt RED.

Projects like the multiplayer mode of the title itself, which we now know will contain micropayments of some kind or that mysterious new game The Witcher that was announced in the spring. If we look at the specific period from January 1 to June 30, 2020, the investment has been 114,274 million zloty (about 25.67 million euros) this year, which represents an increase of 77% in spending compared to the first half of 2019.

Cyberpunk 2077 development has increased CDPR spending in 2020.

The cause for this increase is the development of Cyberpunk 2077, a game that was initially going to be published in April, but whose premiere has been postponed until the end of November. “Spending on project development is primarily related to Cyberpunk 2077, which is entering its final and more intensive (spending) phase of development, along with other ongoing projects at CD Projekt RED and the development of new technologies at the GOG area”.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be available on November 19 of this year. An adventure that will cost the same in the new generation as in the current one and that recently showed its graphic potential through a technical demo with the new Nvidia GPUs.
