Is Nintendo Downplaying The Joy-Con’s Drifting Issue?

Reportedly, in a class-action lawsuit, Nintendo stated that the Joy-Con‘s drifting „isn’t a real problem or hasn’t caused anyone any inconvenience.”

VGC reports about the news regarding the Nintendo Switch‘ detachable controllers’ issue, the drifting (which occurs if the analogue stick is not/no longer used, yet it registers movement). We’ve kept an eye on the international situation regarding the drifting, too.

An American law firm, Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith (which we will shorten to CSK&D onwards due to the name’s sheer length – this is the same law firm that initiated the class-action lawsuit last year; it made Nintendo stop charging for the Joy-Con repairs!), says that Nintendo is downplaying the Joy-Con’s drift issue. They are working to get the case through the arbitration process. They’ve kept replying to consumers who contacted them, and they are asking for evidence of the defect. They’d also like to know how the big N handled their complaints and if the issue affected their confidence in Nintendo’s products.

„Thank you for contacting our law firm about the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con Drift litigation. We are working on putting together a montage of video clips from Nintendo Switch owners such as yourself as a way to give voice to the joy-con drift issues you’ve experienced. This will be helpful to us in responding to Nintendo’s arguments about how this isn’t a real problem or hasn’t caused anyone any inconvenience. To humanize and demonstrate these issues and their impact on consumers, it would be helpful to our prosecution of the case if you would submit a short (90 seconds or less) video to us describing your experience with the Joy-Con drift on your controllers,” CSK&D’s email reads on Reddit. They want the videos to be submitted by October 16, and they will be shared with Nintendo’s attorneys and representatives.

Imagine if you have a hundred videos sent. That’s 2.5 hours of footage that the court might have to sit through, and Nintendo can’t ignore the issue at that point!
