MOVIE NEWS – FX marked Alien Day by unveiling a brand-new teaser for Alien: Earth, hinting that more horrifying creatures than just Xenomorphs are waiting out there in the void. Fans have long celebrated April 26 as Alien Day, paying homage to LV-426, the planet from the original film. Although several brief teasers had been dropped earlier in the week, expectations were high that FX would finally announce the series’ release date. While no date was given, the teaser offered an exciting glimpse into the future of the franchise.
The 42-second clip shows a spaceship filled with compartments, each housing a different, unnamed alien species. The voiceover states: “This ship collected five different lifeforms from the darkest corners of the universe. Each one a unique, deadly species. Monsters.” As the teaser nears its end, a classic Xenomorph bursts from a crate, lunging toward the camera. However, it only confirms that the show will debut in summer 2025, with no exact date revealed.
Given the series title, it seemed obvious that Alien: Earth would spotlight the Xenomorph menace. Initially, fans might have assumed these creatures were variants, like those teased in Alien: Covenant or depicted in the Alien 3 toy line, where Xenomorphs took traits from other animals. But the confirmation of five distinct and deadly species is a major twist, suggesting the Xenomorph is just one of many nightmares hidden among the stars, opening endless speculation for what the series might unleash.
What Horrors Await Beyond the Stars?
The Alien franchise has already introduced multiple alien races aside from the Xenomorphs. The first are the Engineers (also known as Space Jockeys), who were portrayed as the creators of humanity and the Xenomorphs in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. It’s unlikely they are involved in Alien: Earth, as creator Noah Hawley made it clear the series would not tie into the earlier prequels. Another potential connection is with the Predator universe.
Despite Ridley Scott’s efforts to distance the main Alien series from the Alien vs. Predator films, 20th Century Studios now seems more willing to embrace them. The trailer for Predator: Badlands revealed that Elle Fanning’s character is a Weyland-Yutani synthetic. Meanwhile, rumors suggest that Fede Álvarez’s Alien: Romulus sequel might feature a Predator crossover. With Predator: Badlands already showcasing numerous new alien designs, it’s plausible there will be overlaps with Alien: Earth. Plus, the upcoming animated feature Predator: Killer of Killers is set to hit Hulu this summer, likely warming audiences up for all the intergalactic nightmares heading their way.
