Jim Ryan, the president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, doesn’t want to confirm or deny that the 2018-released, PlayStation 4-exclusive God of War‘s sequel will be a cross-gen game or not.
The Telegraph grabbed Ryan for an interview to talk about the PlayStation 5, and the head of PlayStation got a to-the-point question: „Can you confirm whether [the previously announced] God of War: Ragnarok will be a PlayStation 5-exclusive?” The game has no title yet, and it is rumoured to come out in 2021. Ryan’s answer was „Sorry. I’ve got nothing to say about that today.” To us, it sounds like Sony is looking at how fast the PlayStation 4 > PlayStation 5 transition will be, and if the number of people that changed consoles will be low, they might make the adventures of Kratos and Atreus available on PlayStation 4, too. (And since Horizon Forbidden West will also be on PS4, it would make sense.)
Ryan also talked about the critique towards the internal storage of the PlayStation 5 (the SSD soldered onto the motherboard that has 667 GB of storage available for you, and it can’t even be expanded at the moment with external solutions…): „We’re not hearing that. We’ll watch what happens as people unbox their PlayStations and start to start to use them. We think we think we’ll be okay. We can monitor hard drive usage on the PlayStation 4 microscopically and everything that we saw there indicates that we should be fine,” he said. Yeah… keep in mind that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War takes up about 150 GB of that space.
He also dismissed the rumours about Sony charging even more for the first-party PlayStation 5 titles: „I can say that the report that we were considering higher prices for first-party games is categorically false.” He then got a question about Naughty Dog’s first PlayStation 5 game possibly costing more than the usual 60 USD. Here’s his answer: „I’m not making any predictions about anything that might or might not happen in the future. I’m saying that the reports about discussions that we considered higher pricing for first-party games in this launch window were categorically false.”
We’ll see.
