What Separates The Xbox Series From The PlayStation 5? Microsoft’s CEO Responds

Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, explained what sets the two Xbox Series apart from its competitor, namely Sony‘s PlayStation 5.

Recently, Microsoft started to seriously expand its Xbox Game Pass subscription service (whose Ultimate version offers EA Play in it, plus its xCloud service can provide some streaming capabilities), and it will get some big additions to end 2020 (two examples are enough to name here: Control on console and DOOM Eternal on PC, respectively), and the monthly fee for games system does indeed sound like a gaming Netflix model.

„What is being done to set Xbox apart from the PS 5 to win the console war?,” Microsoft’s Head of Investor Relations, Mike Spencer, asked his boss at Microsoft’s annual shareholder meeting. „First thing, we’re very excited about the new console launches in the market. We always have sort of focused on ensuring that our gamer community that counts on us to produce the best consoles has a new generation of consoles, which are powerful and great for gameplay. And we are supporting it with the best content with the best community.

But the broader vision we have is to ensure that the 3 billion gamers out there can play their games, anywhere they want with all the content they want and with whom they want to. And that’s really what we are building our strategy around. You’ve seen us double our content portfolio with ZeniMax acquisition, you see us make advances in our community efforts and our subscription offers with Game Pass. And that’s what you can expect from us. We are very, very much focused on gaming, and ensuring that all the 3 billion gamers around the world get the best content, best community and the best cloud services to power their gaming experiences going forward,” Nadella replied.

Hw did not mention Sony whatsoever, even though Microsoft collaborates with them on cloud technology. We have seen this approach by Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, ignoring the competition in the responses in the process. The amount of success will be noticed via their Game Pass and xCloud subscriber counts, as Microsoft no longer reveals console sales.
