The open-mouthed developer that previously was a film director claims that CD Projekt RED got too much flak for their newest game.
The Gamer wrote about a discussion that happened between Geoff Keighley (The Game Awards) and Josef Fares on Twitter Spaces. There was a Q&A segment where listeners were allowed to ask questions. The outspoken developer was asked about the challenge of making games during lockdowns in wake of the coronavirus global pandemic.
Fares said that he was lucky with the timing of It Takes Two‘s motion capture work, as it happened between two restriction windows. It resulted in the game not being affected by the pandemic, not changing its release date whatsoever. The founder of Hazelight Studios then expressed his sympathy for the companies that were in tough situations by either releasing games in a somewhat incomplete form in 2020, or if they had to delay their titles due to the pandemic.
Fares added that „Cyberpunk got an unfair amount of sh*t.” He added that the „witch hunt” was also unfair towards CD Projekt RED, as some of the developers were allegedly receiving death threats (even though the game would have been in a much better position if it was indeed allowed to stay in the oven for a couple of months, as the performance especially on the consoles were terrible; and the next-gen patch, which was previously planned to launch in late 2020/early 2021, is now planned for the second half of the year).
Fares’ next game, It Takes Two, will be published by Electronic Arts’ indie publishing label (EA Originals) on March 26 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series (even though he admitted that the game wasn’t designed for these two/three platforms), PC (Steam, Origin, with Denuvo, seeing EA’S history), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
