PS5 and Xbox Series X | S recover in UK: May availability pays off and changes the podium

Sony’s console surpasses Nintendo Switch sales in 2021, Microsoft’s console recovers pace.

When a new generation of consoles arrives, it is common for that hardware to have a strong start in stores. This has also happened with Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5, although these have had to face serious stock problems that have hindered the normal sales flow in recent months. It seems that in the United Kingdom, this issue is beginning to stabilize, with which good results are beginning to arrive.

“PS5 and Xbox Series X | S stock levels have improved a lot in the UK in May. Both platforms did better last month compared to April,” said Games Industry Director Christopher Dring on Twitter. “PS5 becomes the number one console of the year, with a healthy advantage over Nintendo Switch. Xbox is also catching up,” he adds.

Unfortunately, exact data on the units sold of each model has not been offered either on its Twitter account or on the web, so we will have to settle for the current ranking. Of course, keep in mind that the Nintendo Switch has been available since 2017: it is a well-established console with a long history of sales. It does manage to keep up with major releases like Monster Hunter Rise.

On the eve of E3 2021, it is expected that both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S will perfect their launch catalogue with some highly anticipated games currently and others that have not yet been announced. Without a doubt, it will be one of the aspects that push the sales of each console in their respective futures.
