Xbox Helix Won’t Be a Single Console – Microsoft Promises an Affordable Family of Devices

Microsoft says Xbox Helix will not be a single console, but a next-generation family of devices. Performance remains important, yet efficiency and affordability are now central goals.

The next Xbox generation has often been described as one powerful PC-console hybrid, but CEO Asha Sharma has clarified Microsoft’s plans. Speaking to the BBC at Gamescom 2026, she said Project Helix is being developed as a family of different devices.

We’ve been hard at work on a great next generation and a great family of devices for Project Helix. This next generation, we have to be thinking about efficiency and affordability alongside performance.

The approach could introduce several price points and give consumers more choice. Sharma argued that players should have greater flexibility in how they purchase hardware, where they play, and how they access their games.

Affordability has become a key issue because rising memory costs have led analysts to predict launch prices above $1,000 for both Xbox Helix and PlayStation 6. Some forecasts suggest such prices could reduce sales by as much as 40 percent compared with the current generation.

Microsoft is not abandoning high-end performance, however. Xbox Helix is intended to bring console and PC games together in one ecosystem, while multiple models could make that ecosystem accessible at different budgets.

The company has not yet revealed final hardware, prices, or a release date. Even so, the statement makes clear that the next Xbox strategy will extend beyond one traditional console.
