Tim Sweeney: „Google Is A Business With A Rotten Soul”

The CEO of Epic Games isn’t solely against Apple; he has his fair share of criticism about Google as well (although the former company has been taken to court in the US already).

AndroidCentral reports that in the United States’ Massachusetts, a contact tracing application called MassNotify are being installed on users’ Android phones without their consent. Sweeney noticed this, and now that the trial between Epic Games and Apple await the ruling, he now focuses on Google, which is also a company he doesn’t approve of their business conducts.

„Google Play desperately needs competition. Blocking popular apps like Fortnite against users’ wishes, while force-installing government apps without users’ consent. It’s a business with a rotten soul,” Sweeney wrote on Twitter. You can install Fortnite on an Android phone, though, but not the usual way. And mentioning something that can help combat the coronavirus global pandemic… hm.

When Epic Games sued Google last year, this is what they claimed in the document: „In 1998, Google was founded as an exciting young company with a unique motto: ‘Don’t Be Evil’. Google’s Code of Conduct explained that this admonishment was about ‘how we serve our users’ and ‘much more than that . . . it’s also about doing the right thing more generally. Twenty-two years later, Google has relegated its motto to nearly an afterthought, and is using its size to do evil upon competitors, innovators, customers, and users in a slew of markets it has grown to monopolize.”

Then on Twitter, Sweeney added: „Respect to the rebel graphics artist who photoshopped the logo in [an Apple document called Building a Trusted Ecosystem for Millions of Apps]. A buoy of truth in a sea of lies!”, then added that the developers should beware of foxes that take away 30% of their revenue (hinting at both Apple and Google).

We wonder what the ruling between Epic and Apple will be.
