Marvel’s Avengers: A Free Weekend On Several Platforms, New Expansion Shortly

Square Enix doesn’t seem to abandon the Marvel’s Avengers game just yet, even though this live service title doesn’t seem to have much interest going for it.

Let’s start with the free weekend: Marvel’s Avengers now has an all-access weekend, which should be active until Monday (going by what Steam displays…) on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC (Steam), and Google Stadia. A PlayStation Plus subscription is required! Several limited-time special promotions are also available, like a 4x bonus to XP gained, a 50% off sale in the in-game Marketplace (microtransactions…), and the return of the Tachyon Anomaly event. The new expansion will be showcased on Twitch on August 16, at 1 PM Eastern.

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics announced that the Black Panther: War for Wakanda expansion will launch on August 17 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia. Here’s what the publisher writes about it: „The “Black Panther: War for Wakanda” expansion adds to a game already packed with content, including eight other playable heroes, more than 25 hours of single-player campaign content (from the core release through the Expansion), and endless multiplayer action for up to four players. In addition, new modes and events are being introduced regularly, and dozens of outfits inspired by Marvel comics and movies are available to customize players’ favourite Super Heroes.

The story of the free “Black Panther: War for Wakanda” expansion revolves around King T’Challa, the Black Panther, devoted protector and current ruler of Wakanda. Blindsided by a betrayal and the resulting tragedy, T’Challa finds it difficult to entrust his duty to anyone else, even his sister Shuri, while also confronting those who wish to do Wakanda harm. When arch-villain Klaw’s forces threaten Wakanda’s safety, T’Challa must take the fight right to them to defend everything and everyone he holds dear.

Players will experience the game’s story and additional missions in the ongoing Avengers Initiative in the lush jungles of Wakanda, an entirely new environment and sole location of the world’s Vibranium. They’ll also get to explore the Royal Palace that overlooks Birnin Zana, known as “The Golden City,” in a new Outpost that contains Shuri’s laboratory, Zawavari’s chambers, and the Wakandan War Room,” Square Enix wrote.

And the joke: Spider-Man, which was announced pre-release as a PlayStation-exclusive character, is STILL NOT PLAYABLE. And we wrote about him that his arrival will only happen AFTER Black Panther. Ouch.
