Hideo Kojima worried about digital rights and advocates physical media

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has revealed that he is still very much in favour of physical media and has expressed his concerns about digital rights as the industry continues to move inexorably towards a digital-only future.

Taking to Twitter, Kojima-san revealed that he still buys CDs and is concerned that in the future, people will not be able to own digital products, so consumers will not have free access to their favourite works. “CDs will soon disappear. When I think about it, I still buy them. Even if they are only sold in bulk.” – the star artist confessed frankly.

“Eventually, even digital data will no longer be owned by individuals. When there’s a big change or disaster in the world, in a country, in a government, in an idea, in a trend, suddenly access can be lost. We will no longer be able to access the films freely, books and music we love. ” argued the creator.

The coronavirus outbreak has caused a massive surge in digital purchases, as shops have been forced to close, and some have sadly gone out of business. Nevertheless, physical media remains popular, at least as far as video games are concerned.

A fellow journalist who wrote the article (Andy Robinson, VGS) concludes, ” I’m 100% behind Kojima-san on this issue and still buy physical games regularly, as well as music CDs and Blu-ray movies.”
